Mr. Corey is a Certified Financial Planner™ professional (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) and Managing Partner of c5 Wealth Management, LLC. Throughout his financial planning career Mr. Corey has been an active participant in the industry associations, serving on a number of advisory councils for the Financial Planning Association (FPA). He is also a member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and was admitted to the National Registry of Financial Planning Practitioners. In 2009 Mr. Corey completed the Harvard Negotiation Institute Mediation Workshop at Harvard Law school. This program provided him with additional skills and training to act as a mediator and expert in not only divorce/family matters but business mediation issues as well.
Mr. Corey was born in New York and grew up in Stony Brook, NY on Long Island. Upon graduation from American International College in Springfield, MA in 1971, he served in the US Navy for just over four years. Service in the Navy brought him to the Washington, DC metropolitan area in 1972 and he has been here ever since. He began his career in the financial services industry in 1980 and in 1986 he formed his own firm, Great Falls Financial Services, a fee-based independent Registered Investment Advisory firm.
Mr. Corey has been an active member in the local community, past President and member of the Business and Professional Association of Great Falls (BPA); has been a guest speaker at a number of industry conferences; has taught college business courses at UMUC and currently co-teaches divorce mediation classes at Northern Virginia Mediation Service (NVMS); has been a speaker on the financial aspects of divorce at the Women's Center in Vienna, Virginia; has been featured in national publications such as USA Today, Working Women Magazine, MONEY and Good Housekeeping; and has provided expert commentary on local television networks. He continues to work closely with a number of local family practice lawyers, is an expert witness in divorce cases, and a founding member of the Virginia Collaborative Professionals (VaCP). He is currently President of NVMS and, is the Treasurer and Executive Committee member of the VaCP. Since 2003, Mr. Corey has been selected as one of the nation's Top 500 Wealth Managers by Bloomberg Wealth Manager Magazine and in 2009 was selected, with his partner, as Advisor of the Year by Boomer Market Advisor magazine.
